Cairo: A Cairo court on Thursday reviewed alleged images of the key defendant in the murder of a Lebanese singer in Dubai in 2008.

Before announcing the postponement of the high-profile case to May 22, Adel Abdel Salam Juma'a, the Presiding Judge of the Criminal Court, cross-examined an expert from the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior who could not confirm if the pictures were authentic.

The pictures, captured by a surveillance camera at a hotel housing the apartment of the slain Lebanese diva Suzan Tamim, allegedly showed Mohsin Al Sukkari, an ex-policeman, moving inside the building in July 2008. Suzan was found dead in a pool of blood inside her apartment on July 28, 2008.

Al Sukkari is accused of killing Suzan upon an order from Hesham Talaat Mustafa, an Egyptian construction mogul and an ex-MP, for $2 million.

Tight security

Both defendants, who appeared in court yesterday amid tight security, had denied the charges on Monday when their retrial started on that day.

The court yesterday allowed lawyers for the two defendants to get a copy of the CD containing Mohsin's alleged pictures.

In May 2009, a Cairo court sentenced the two defendants to death over their involvement in the killing of Suzan with whom Hesham had an aborted love affair.

Last March, however, the Court of Cassation, Egypt's highest judicial court, overturned the verdict, citing faulty evidence.

Since it came to the surface in August 2008, the case has riveted attention in the Arab world because the co-defendant Hesham is a member of President Hosni Mubarak's party.
