Geneva: More than 1 million francs ($825,000) in jewellery was stolen during its delivery to the Baselworld trade fair last week, the Swiss news agency ATS reported yesterday.

Peter Gill, spokesman for the city of Basel public ministry, declined to offer details of the theft which occurred before the Thursday opening of Baselworld, the world's largest watch and jewellery show.

Organisers said there were about 60 customs agents reviewing the goods shipped to the show, where billions of dollars of fine items are on display.
