Colombo: Hundreds of Sri Lankans have protested outside the Canadian Embassy, accusing Canada of supporting the Tamil Tigers in the final days before the rebel's defeat.

Protesters pelted the embassy with stones, sprayed graffiti on the wall and painted over a security camera.

They alleged Canada has been supporting the Tamil rebels and blamed Canadian authorities for failing to protect Sri Lankans living there and their property.

Recent reports say some Buddhist temples, restaurants and houses in Canada, Britain and France owned by Sri Lanka's majority Sinhalese have come under attack allegedly by rebel supporters.

The protest Wednesday in the capital, Colombo, came a week after Sri Lanka declared victory in its quarter-century war with the Tigers.
