Manila: Filipina actress Kris Aquino has endorsed the ruling Liberal Party’s vice-presidential candidate, Congresswoman Leni Robredo,

However, the TV host has not openly supported Mar Roxas, the chosen presidential candidate of her older brother President Benigno Aquino.

Robredo, widow of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse, who died in a helicopter crash 2012, is “brave, simple, trustworthy, and honest,” the young Aquino said in a caption of a photo that included her, her two children Josh and James Jr., and the congresswoman.

Its release online was seen as a sign of her endorsement.

Meanwhile, former Senator Francisco Pangilinan, a senatorial candidate of the ruling coalition, denied reports that President Aquino is supporting two presidential candidates.

“President Aquino has one word. His only presidential candidate is Mar Roxas. The party is committed to that support,” Pangilinan told Gulf News.

“President Aquino is not a typical politician. He is not fond of political accommodations,” Pangilinan said in a “bread forum” at the Kamuning Bakery.

A famous product endorser, the actress Aquino confessed earlier that she was close to at least three presidential candidates: Roxas, Vice-President Jejomar Binay of the opposition Unite Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Senator Grace Poe, an independent candidate.

Roxas’ mother, Judy Araneta-Roxas, is a baptismal godmother, the actress said.

Poe’s adoptive mother, actress Susan Roces, is a “special person,” Aquino said.

Binay is a family friend and a long-time ally of Corazon Aquino when she was propped up to the presidency by a people-backed military mutiny that ousted former dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1986.

One of Binay’s daughters “Anne remains one of my closest friends,” the actress admitted earlier.

At the same time, politicians in the Aquino family such as former Senators Tessie Aquino-Oreta and Butz Aquino are publicly Binay supporters, sources said.

Former Congressman Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr., the brother of President Aquino’s mother, vowed last year to support Binay in the 2016 polls.

The influential political Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) of Aquino’s other uncle, Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco, was reportedly pro-Poe.

Poe has remained a top choice in private surveys, but she has a pending disqualification case over alleged lack of Filipino citizenship and residency, at the Supreme Court.

Binay, Roxas, and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are statistically tied after Poe in a recent popularity survey.
