Islamabad: Islamabad-based Quaid-e-Azam University has been rated the best in Pakistan by the country’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) in its evaluation report for 2014.

The University of Agriculture in the city of Faisalabad and University of Punjab in Lahore secured second and third positions respectively.

The report has been published after a year’s delay, which HEC chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmad attributed the delay to the “herculean task of collecting, analysing and making the final evaluation.”

The ranking was conducted for 120 varsities present prior to June 30, 2009. Nineteen universities awarded the charter after June 30, 2009, have not been included in the list.

Further, Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University were excluded from the list for providing incomplete data.

The universities which made it to the top 10 in ‘overall ranking’ include: COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad; Aga Khan University, Karachi ; National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad ; University of Karachi ; Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Islamabad; University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Lahore and University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
