Karachi: Hundreds of angry students and their parents staged protests outside an educational board office after results of about 60,000 students of the matriculation examinations were missing from the result sheets.

The Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK) had announced the results of secondary school certificate (SSC) Part II for the year 2015, on Thursday, in which all the top positions were clinched by the girl students.

However, as many as 60,000 students could not find their results in the sheet that was posted on the board’s official website and released to the media. The anxious pupils went to the board office today to inquire about their results, but officials failed to satisfy their queries.

The students got angry and started chanting slogans against board officials and then turned violent. The management of the board called the police and paramilitary Rangers to prevent the deterioration of the situation.

Chairman BSEK Anwar Ahmad Zai told the media that this year the board tried hard to establish transparency in the result-providing process and used improved software to make the system quick. He also said that someone might have ommited the results intentionally to bring disrepute to the organisation. However, he said that a strict inquiry would be carried and he would fire whoever might be involved in the negligence.

Some 60 per cent, or 88,428, students passed the examination. Nine girls got the top positions in science, arts and special group subjects.
