Karachi: Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Tuesday warned the paramilitary law enforcement agency in western Balouchistan to produce missing person in the court come what may.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Ifitkhar Mohammad Chaudhry was presiding the case of law and order situation in Balouchistan where sectarian extremists and insurgents were carrying reckless massacres frequently.

The chief justice, who is hearing the case in Quetta, remarked that the court knew that many missing persons were picked by the Frontier Constabulary (FC).

“We have the proofs that FC has picked up the men from Balouchistan and we want nothing less than the production of those men here,” Justice Chahudhry was quoted as saying by lawyers.

The chief of the apex court also said that besides ensuring the economic development and growth in the province, the basic human rights of the people should also be secured and protected.

The provincial home secretary informed the court that in June 101 target killings were carried out in the province of which 86 were the common people whereas 15 were the police.

The court was also informed that the police arrested three activists of Lashkare Mehdi who confessed of killing 24 religious scholars in the province.

The home secretary told the court that some 56 target killers where shot down by the police in different shootouts.

Budget for forensic laboratory was also approved by the provincial government which would help the police and investigators to probe the criminal cases.

Explaining the killing trends in the province the city police chief told the court that in sectarian killing Shiites and Sunnis were being targeted by the sectarian outfits whereas the ethnic Punjabi and Sindhi settlers were being killed by the nationalist insurgents.
