KARACHI: The provincial Election Commission on Thursday issued notification of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidate Senator Saeed Ghani’s victory in by-election for Sindh Assembly seat PS114, rejecting the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) petition for the recount of the ballots.

Ghani, the PPP candidate had won the election in Karachi, defeating the MQM candidate Kamran Tissouri, who challenged the results.

In his petition, Tissorui claimed that he had been winning the election but the provincial government and police use their resources to change the election result. He appealed for the recount of the ballot papers by an honest officer.

MQM chief Farooq Sattar said that four PPP workers, who had been arrested for casting bogus votes during the polls, should have been investigated that how many votes they cast before being apprehended.

The MQM lawyer told the election tribunal that gross irregularities were committed at some 21 polling stations during the compilation of the election result.

He requested the tribunal that votes must be verified by the National Database and Registration Authority.
