Karachi: People early Friday nabbed, battered and beat up two police officials while they were attempting a robbery in a middle class neighbourhood and handed them over to the police.

This morning two policeman, one in uniform, tried to bust into a house in Shah Lateef town but the people in the neighbourhood caught them red handed and recovered the stolen money from their custody.

The furious people beat the policemen up. Television footage showed people manhandling the two robbers, pulling them from their shirt collars. Later both men, identified as Mukhtar and Iqbal, were handed over to the local police station.

A case was registered against the two men, police said. Meanwhile, Supreme Court of Pakistan expressed its anger over the police performance over mishandling of the murder case of a taxi driver by the paramilitary rangers.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry presided over the hearing of the case in Islamabad today and remarked that the way the first information report (FIR) was registered suggested that the police tried to spoil the case.

Justice Chaudhry also expressed his apprehensions that the policy was deliberately distorting the case and the justice might not be rendered to the widow of the slain taxi driver.

The apex court took suo moto notice of the taxi driver murder case who was gunned down by the rangers. The incident took place early this month while the taxi drivers passed by a ranger picket ignoring their signalling to stop.

A ranger opened fire from behind that fatally shot the driver.

The court remarked on Friday that the brutal incident was similar in nature to the Sarfarz Shah case where rangers shot a young man in cold blood at a public park while he was begging for his life.

The tragic incident recorded on camera and its footage shocked the nation.
