Lahore: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presented himself before the commission probing the Panama leaks because he has a clean record.

He was talking to the media along with Minister for Railways, Khawaja Saad Rafique, and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Talal Chaudhry in Lahore on Sunday.

He said the business interests of the Sharif family were well-established before the creation of Pakistan.

He said those who have black money are creating hurdles in the path of the probe commission, which comprises Supreme Court Judges.

He said those enquiring about seed money for Sharif’s sons’ businesses are tampering with the truth.

The Information Minister said forensic audits of Sharif family assets have been done before: thrice during former President Pervez Musharraf’s rule and twice during Pakistan Peoples Party rule.

Rashid said during the period of dictatorship, Sharif’s family was in exile. He said his elder son, Hussain, was confined in Jeddah and younger son, Hassan, was confined in London, and their passports were confiscated. They started their business in those locations.

Addressing the press conference on the occasion, Rafique said PTI Chairman Imran Khan is sowing seeds of hatred in the country’s politics.

He said PTI rejected the verdict of the Judicial Commission which probed 2013 allegations of rigging and didn’t bother to apologise later.

PML (N) leader Chaudhry said PTI leaders also own offshore companies, which is why PTI is shying away from the commission.
