PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan said that socio-economic development is not possible in the country in general and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in particular without peace in the region.

He said peace was not possible without proper education and that is why the government is spending heavily on spreading education especially in the tribal belt.

He was addressing the Education-Expo 2015 in Peshawar on Tuesday. The expo was arranged by the Jang Media Group. The governor said that there existed huge talent in Fata and called upon the public and private academic institutions throughout the country to play their significant role in educating the Fata youth.

He said the government had also increased scholarships of the Fata students and all possible measures were being taken to equip them with better academic know-how. He said to maintain peace in the country it was necessary to ensure peace in Fata first.

Appreciating the management for arranging such a successful expo, the governor said that such seminars and programmes were very necessary for the development of education and would give much impetus to the sharing of knowledge among the student groups. He said the government was doing much to encourage academic activities.

The Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan said unfortunately the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was passing through bad phase of terrorism in the last 10 years and the tribesmen had played very constructive role in wiping out terrorists. He said they offered a lot of sacrifices and faced the war on terror very boldly alongside Pakistan Army soldiers.

He said the role of the academic institutions was also very important and called upon academic bodies to come forward and heed the need for education of the new generation for ensuring pace and development in Fata as well.
