Islamabad: Discussion and voting on a move in the National Assembly to dismiss lawmakers of opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) over violation of rules was deferred for a week yesterday.

Two resolutions seeking disqualification of 28 PTI lawmakers were tabled in the lower house of the parliament by Jamatia Ulema Islam-F and Muttahida Qaumi Movement parties.

The two parties are demanding that the lawmakers be dismissed for remaining absent from the House for 40 days during the PTI street agitation last year.

The PTI deputies are attending the first session of the National Assembly, which has met after a verdict by the judicial commission verdict that rejected the PTI’s allegations that the 2013 national election was rigged.

The three-judge commission headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk has ruled that the elections were largely conducted fairly and in accordance with the law.

The commission’s report, however, noted there had been certain lapses on the part of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq deferred consideration of the resolutions for a week.
