Islamabad: More than half a million people have been affected by monsoon rain and floods in Pakistan this month, according to the latest data released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The death toll has gone up to 86, in addition to injuries to 56 people.

More than 800 villages have been affected and about 2,050 houses have been damaged.

More than 23,000 people have been accommodated in 214 relief camps.

In a letter to the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah urged him to convene a meeting of the NDMA on the flood situation.

Shah, who belongs to the Pakistan People’s Party, said the meeting was necessary to discuss ways for the delivery of relief to affected people on a war footing.
