Karachi: The Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister for Information, Science and Technology, Dr. Sikandar Shoro, has approved the installation of more than 5,000 security surveillance cameras at the places of worship of minorities throughout the province.

The minister, while presiding over a high-level meeting at his office, said Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is keen to protect and to provide rights to the minority communities as per constitution, according to a statement on Sunday.

Dr Shoro told the Secretary Information, Science and Technology, Pervaiz Ahmad Seehar, that this project must be completed as soon as possible.

He explained, Rs400 million (Dh14 million) has been earmarked to complete the project while Rs7 Million will be utilised for maintenance of the project. He added for this purpose a monitoring room will be established on the premises, away from the monitored area, which will be managed by the trained staff round the clock.

He added that in the first phase, a survey of security of temples, churches, gurdwaras and other sacred places of worship used by minorities will be conducted and on the basis of the survey report, between four and 16 security cameras would be installed at strategic locations around the place of worship.
