Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday urged the national educational institutions to prepare a sufficient pool of skilled workers keeping in mind the requirements of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Addressing a convocation of the National University of Modern Language in Islamabad, he said the CPEC was envisaging an investment of around $45 billion (Dh165 billion) by China which will change the destiny of the whole region.

The 15-year mega project will link China’s western region with the deep-seat Gawadar port on the Arabian Sea in the southwestern Balochistan province of Pakistan through road and railway networks.

The president said the CPEC includes special economic zones, energy projects and the development of the Gawadar port and construction of an international airport there.

Economic prosperity

He said Pakistan will emerge as an important country with the completion of this mega project, which will usher in an era of economic prosperity and industrialisation in the country.

Referring to the ongoing anti-terrorism operations in the country, the president said that the campaign will continue till the restoration of complete peace.

He added that the overall law and order situation has improved and business activities are gaining momentum.

The president urged the nation to stand firmly by the government and the armed forces for the complete eradication of terrorism.
