Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday announced it would analyse for itself, details of the financial accounts of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which were submitted before the commission by the party.

A four-member bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza, while hearing the foreign funding case against PTI chief Imran Khan, said the ECP would examine the ‘details’ submitted by the party and not share them with anyone until the matter was decided by the High Court.

PTI counsel Saqlain Haider informed the commission that the matter was being heard in the Islamabad High Court, which will hear the case on December 5.

The PTI lawyer said the ECP can review the details but should not reveal the information to anyone — including the petitioner.

Petitioner Akbar Babar’s counsel submitted additional documents claiming that the PTI’s submitted funding details were bogus and incomplete and requested the commission to cross check them with those submitted in the Supreme Court.

The commission adjourned the hearing until November 21.

Later, addressing journalists outside the ECP, founding PTI member Akbar S. Babar said there was no money trail of foreign funding submitted by the PTI.

He said that they had not only tampered with the evidence but were now changing records of companies in the US that were established for their fund-raising.

“I will write a letter to the US ambassador requesting the US government to investigate these fake companies,” Babar said.

He claimed that the donors of Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital have been listed as PTI donors. He said that Imran Khan ‘s disqualification is the logical conclusion of these cases.

PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Babar Awan have said that Imran Khan’s money trail for the last 41 years, with receipts, has been submitted in the Supreme Court.

They said Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) PML-N leaders wanted to silence the party by hook or by crook.

Ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had tried all tactics to clash with institutions but all in vain, they said.

They said the PTI demand for new elections was “100 per cent” correct.

Talking to media outside the Supreme Court Fawad Chaudhry said the case of Imran Khan was being heard in phases hence the party was submitting documentation in parts. He said judges were auditing minutely and carefully analysing them.

“Upon the fresh query by honourable judges then we strive [to find] the documents and in this context all tranches have been completed,” he said.

He said a money trail of transactions involving Imran Khan, amounting to £0.672 million (Dh3.27 million) had been submitted in the court.

He added the case was near its end.

They further said that Niazi Services neither is the property of Imran Khan nor Imran Khan holds any share in it.

Three different companies were the owners of Niazi Services, in which Imran was the owner of one apartment, and by selling this impartment the money was brought to Pakistan.

The PTI leader said people should see that the Nawaz Sharif case was spread over 16 companies and 300 billion rupees (Dh10.46 billion) whereas Imran Khan’s total money trail of 41 years is £0.672 million.

Fawab Chaudhry said some people, since Nawaz Sharif had been disqualified, equally wanted to see other politicians disqualified including Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen so that Sharif may get “some alleviation from mental pains”.

He said Imran Khan had never been PM or CM of Pakistan whereas Nawaz Sharif remained PM for nine years and CM and finance minister for five years.

He said Imran Khan was a professional cricketer and superfluous queries pertaining to cricket cannot be replied and entertained either.

Meanwhile PTI leader Babar Awan has said the PTI demand for new elections is 100 per cent justified.

He said for real and true democracy in the country, new elections are very essential.

Babar Awan asserted that government is making endeavours to make amendment in the constitution of their choice. He said the government failed in the first round for bringing religious amendments and striving to change the TOR including lowering of period of tenure for heads of institutions.

PTI leader added a perception is being created that Pakistan has a government in exile and punishment of ouster of Nawaz Sharif is being given to the nation.
