Karachi: A body found dumped in the outskirts of the city was Thursday identified as that of an ethnic Baloch journalist who has been missing since early this year.
Two bodies were found in the Sarjai Town, the western part of this sprawling city, early Wednesday. Paper chits were attached with the bodies that suggested that one body was of Haji Abdul Razzaq, the journalist whereas the other one was identified as Pathan.
The family members yesterday tried to identify Abdul Razzaq but could not recognize him because the face was charred beyond recognition. More members of the family visited later and finally recognized the body from his arms and feet.
Razzaq’s sister Saeeda Sarbazi told the media that the body was tortured and was getting decomposed.
Burial of Razzaq was scheduled Wednesday evening, she said.
Razzaq was the sub editor at daily Tawar (Voice), a Baloch daily, and he was missing since March 2013
Family source said that he was picked up from Chakiwara area of Lyari Town, a restive part of Karachi. A government attorney Wednesday told a bench of Supreme Court that 778 people were missing from across the country.
The term of missing persons is used here to refer those activists who might have been picked up extra judicially by the intelligence and security agencies.
Abdul Raheem Baluch, the head of Voice for Missing Persons, a non-government organization said that curing the current year 26 bodies were found from Karachi. The bodies were of the Baluchs belonged to Makran, Turbat, Panjgoor and Awaran districts of Balochistan province.
He further said that bodies of two Baluch activists were found on Tuesday too, who were strangulated.
Spate of violence, meanwhile continued in the city as five more people were killed in the city today. A Shiite doctor was targeted in Laiqatabad Post Office whereas two bodies were found from Bandhani Colony.
