Benazir's son to take up party mantle

Bilawal Bhutto is expected to be the new chief of her Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Gulf News has learnt.

Dubai: Bilawal, the eldest son of slain former prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto is expected to be the new chief of her Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Gulf News has learnt.

According to close family friends and the PPP leaders, a council of senior party leaders will also be formed to supervise the affairs of the party until BIlawal, who is currently studying at Oxford, is fully capable of handling the party affairs.

Bilawal will also read out a message which her mother left to explain the future of the PPP in the event of her death. Bilawal completed his high school in Dubai.

Meanwhile, secretary general of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians, told Gulf News from Larkana, home town of Benazir that they heard about Bilawal to be new party chief.

"The announcement about the future party leadership will be made after the Central Executive Committee meeting in Larkana on Sunday," he added.

Sources also disclosed that Zulfiqar Junior, son of the late Murtaza Bhutto, will also have some important role in the PPP.
