Islamabad: Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif on Wednesday demanded that a parliamentary commission be constituted to probe into matter of issuance of thousands of visas to foreigners by the previous government, saying the revelations made by Hussain Haqqani are against the national security.

Asif was talking in the National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday.

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) (PML-N) took the memogate case to Supreme Court.

He went on to say Haqqani had gone to the US by obtaining permission but he had not returned. This incident is on record. Haqqani levelled charges against the then two top functionaries of the government. His statement was confirmed by the then president and prime minister. “I will give policy statement on this issue on Monday,” he added.

A Parliamentary Commission (PC) should be constituted, he said, adding there is a need to strengthen the house.

He said the visa trouble involved the former interior minister, too.

He said former president Asif Ali Zardari used to talk of boosting relations with US authorities and stressed that a commission comprising members of parliament must be constituted. It is not the first time that Haqqani has talked about the country’s security and its security agencies.
