Hyderabad: Member of Parliament and former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin was drowned in personal grief as his youngest son Mohammad Ayazuddin on Friday lost his six-day long battle for life.

19-year-old Ayaz, who was seriously injured in a motor cycle crash on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries at the Apollo Hospital on Friday morning, leaving the family numb with shock.

Azhar, known for keeping his emotions under check in public broke down when doctors informed him that Ayaz was no more.

Ayaz, a degree students of St Mary's College in Secunderabad and a promising young cricketer received multiple internal and external injuries when he was on a joy ride on his brand new imported 1000 cm Suzuki bike along the Outer Ring Road of Hyderabad.

His cousin (Azhar's sister's son) Ajmal, the pillion rider died on the spot when Ayaz lost control over his bike and hit the divider at the Puppalaguda under Narsingi police station.

Police said that the youngster was riding his bike at a speed of 200 kms when the accident occurred. Ajmal and Ayaz were found in a pool of blood and scattered pieces of the bike. Doctors said that they did not know how long they were lying on the road before they were brought to the hospital. While Ajmal was brought dead, doctors initially could not find the pulse or heart beat of Ayaz. However they succeeded in resuscitating and put him on ventilator.

Such was the intensity of the crash that almost every internal organ was damaged. There was heavy bleeding from his lung and one kidney. His liver and intestine were also damaged and the brain was also asphyxiated due to lack of oxygen supply for a long time, doctors said.

During the course of the treatment doctors had to remove his damaged kidney because of the bleeding. A team of experts tried to save him but could not succeed.

Ironically Azhar had gifted the Rs1.3 million motor bike to Ayaz as a gift on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr a fortnight ago.

Ayaz was Azhar's son from his first wife Naureen and she was completly devastated by the sudden turn of events. Naureen who lives in Dubai after her divorce, rushed to the city after the accident.
