Hyderabad: “Ammi, Maaf Kardena” (Mother, forgive me).
These were the last words of a distraught Anjum Faizan in her selfie video before she hanged herself from the ceiling of her mother’s home in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old Anjum was married to Mohammead Irfan on January 13, but ended her life saying she was unable to bear the harassment by her husband and in-laws.
In the video recorded on her phone, Anjum accused her mother-in-law, husband Irfan and sister-in-law Ayesha of driving her to take the extreme step.
“I am ending my life due to the harassment from my in-laws,” she said identifying each one by name.
The incident occurred in Balapur, a poor district on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
After recording the less than thirty seconds long message, Anjum hanged herself in the bathroom of her house when other family members were away.
Her relatives said she had returned to her parents’ home a few days ago complaining that her in-laws were harassing her and demanding more dowry.
The tragedy struck even as elders in the family were trying to resolve the issue.
The body was sent for the post mortem and the police have booked a case against Irfan, his mother and sister.
