Hyderabad: Amid the growing cacophony over simultaneous polls to the Parliament and the state assemblies, ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) appears to be tilting in favour of the idea floated by the Prime Minister Narendar Modi. Speculations were rife in the TRS and party leaders were busy in confabulations on the possibility of an early poll by the end of this year. While the elections to the state assembly were due in May next year, TRS leadership is not averse to an early election as it is confident that the conditions are favourable to its party.

The possibility has gained much credence that many of the sitting members of the state assembly have started lobbying for tickets. Chief Minister and TRS President K Chandrasekhar Rao has indicated that the candidates of the party will be finalised on the basis of the outcome of the opinion poll surveys he commissioned by three different private agencies to gauge the public mood and assess the public satisfaction with the performance of the MLAs. Party sources said of the 82 TRS MLAs (including those defected form the TDP and Congress), about one third may not be considered for the party ticket.

The strongest indication of TRS’ stand on early and simultaneous polls came from the party’s leader in Lok Sabh AP Jitender Reddy. He told the media that the idea of simultaneous elections was good as it will save money and time. “We support this idea as we will be able to concentrate on governance”, he said.

Meanwhile a senior state minister and Chief Minister’s son K Taraka Rama Rao has exuded confidence that the party will return to power for a second term. “If KCR doesn’t come back to power, I will renounce politics,” he said.

On the other hand main the opposition Congress party has said it was ready for elections any time. The Party’s floor leader in the state assembly K Jana Reddy said the party was ready to face even a snap poll.
