Hyderabad: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has come up with a novel idea to test the public mood in the state. He is planning to make party member of Lok Sabha from Nalgonda G Sukhinder Reddy resign to pave the way for a by-election there.

G. Sukhinder Reddy, who was elected in 2014 on Congress ticket but later defected to the TRS has already handed over his resignation to KCR and it was likely to be forwarded to the Speaker for acceptance.

Party sources said that TRS will field a new face as its candidate in the by election as Sukhinder Reddy was tipped to become chairman of the state level Farmers Coordination Committee, a cabinet rank post.

“The plan is to win the Nalgonda seat with a bigger margin to demoralise the Congress in a crucial district”, said a senior TRS leader.

Pointing out that Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency includes the assembly segments of state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, his wife Padmavathi, and leader of opposition in assembly K Jana Reddy, TRS sources said if TRS wins such a seat it will be a big boost for the party ahead of the 2019 polls.

Senior Congress leader from Nalgonda K Venkat Reddy has welcomed the idea of Lok Sabha by election in his constituency and said that if Congress President Sonia Gandhi asks him he would be ready to contest the by-election. “Even if any other candidate is fielded I will work hard for his win”, he said.
