New Delhi: Three Delhi pupils scored a whopping 97.2 per cent and topped the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class 12 exams in the capital. The results were declared on Friday.

Two of the students who excelled in the exams are from Delhi Public School in R.K. Puram, while the third is from Rukmini Devi Public School in Pitampura.

Sneha Agrawal, who studied commerce from Rukmini Devi Public School, told IANS: "I am very happy. I studied for just one hour everyday... I was expecting a good result, but never thought that I would top Delhi. My parents are very proud of me and that is what is most important for me."

Divanshu Agrawal, the other topper, who is a science student from Delhi Public School similarly said that he was extremely pleased with his results.

"I worked hard and studied for six-seven hours everyday. I hope to become a lawyer someday," Agrawal told IANS.

Shruti Lakhtakia, the third topper who studied humanities in Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, said that the results have been beyond her expectations. "I want to study Economics Honours in St. Stephens college."

Some students who didn't score as well as their counterparts were nevertheless satisfied with their results.

Disappointment

Bhanav Hasija, a commerce student who secured 65 per cent, said: "I didn't score too well, but it's alright. In the future I plan to take over my father's business".

Some others, however, said that they were planning to send their answer sheets for re-evaluation.

Sahil Verma, a science student from Bal Bhavan Public School, Mayur Vihar said: "I scored 74 per cent and am not at all happy with my results. I am planning to send my papers for re-evaluation."

This year, 699,129 students — 408,367 boys and 290,762 girls — took the Class 12 board exams in India and abroad.

Meanwhile, the overall pass percentage of the CBSE exams saw a drop of 1.13 per cent. The overall pass percentage was 79.87 per cent compared to 81 per cent last year, a CBSE spokesperson said.

The pass percentage for girls was 85.28 per cent, compared to 75.90 per cent for boys.

The overall pass percentage was the highest in Chennai — 92.12 per cent.

The pass percentage for regular students was 81.95 percent while it was 41.99 percent for those who studied through correspondence. The board said the number of cheating cases saw a drop this year compared to last year.

The number of cheating cases this year in the six regions — Ajmer, Panchkula, Delhi, Guwahati, Chennai and Allahabad — totalled 43 against 58 last year, said CBSE spokesperson Rama Sharma.

Allahabad, which had the highest number of cheating cases, reported 24 incidents. Delhi and Panchkula region had six cases each. Chennai reported the lowest incidence with only one case being reported.
