Kolkata: A 16 year old girl was allegedly gang-raped and brutally beaten up by the assailants in Diamond Harbour in South 24 Parganas of West Bengal.

The girl was abducted by her neighbour and his friend and were taken to a hotel room nearby where she was raped and thrashed and left on the road unconscious. Passers-bye rescued her and rushed her to a hospital. The girl is reported to be stable but is severely injured with multiple wounds.

The attackers are absconding and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the culprits.

“We have launched a manhunt in the city, and a red alert has been issued across railway stations and airports. It seems that the man had been trying to court the girl who is much younger to him.... But since she did not respond, the assailant raped her as a revenge,” said a police officer.

Police are also investigating how the accused booked two rooms in the hotel without any documents. They interrogated the hotel manager and sealed the premises.

“There are three people who are accused in this case. Apart from the main culprit, his friend and the hotel manager both of whom helped the main accused,” said a police officer. “There is a serious issue with law enforcement in regard to hotels. Anyone checking in must provide photo identity. But it seems that the accused is a part of the nexus where people check-in without giving any valid ID proof,” the police officer added.
