Thiruvananthapuram: Saritha S. Nair, one of the prime accused in the solar power scam in Kerala continued her unrelenting attack on the government on Friday, saying she had bribed the police association, and got favours from the government for Team Solar.

Team Solar is the company Nair set up with her friend, Biju Radhakrishnan.

In the latest of her allegations, Nair said on Friday she had released an advertisement in the magazine brought out by the police association.

She said she had mailed the text of the advertisement to a staff member in chief minister Oommen Chandy’s office.

However, since she was arrested before the release of the magazine, the advertisement merely said, ‘a well-wisher’, instead of acknowledging Team Solar.

Nair alleged that she had handed over Rs2 million (Dh108,771) to the police association’s leader, G.R. Ajith towards conduct of the state conference of the association in 2013.

In return, she alleged, the association had favoured her by passing a resolution that all police stations should set up solar power panels.

Nair is presently deposing before the Justice E. Sivarajan Commission that is probing the solar scam. At the centre of the case are charges that she and Radhakrishnan duped dozens of people of millions of rupees by promising them high returns on investment by investing in solar and wind mill projects.

Nair has also deposed about facing sexual harassment, and has promised to give more digital and other material proof to the Solar Commission in the coming days.

Nair’s allegations against Chandy and his cabinet colleagues have rocked the state government, which is facing assembly elections in May.

Chandy has denied all allegations and countered, “How can you trust a person whose cheque for Rs200,000 bounced?” referring to a cheque by Team Solar for that amount paid to the chief minister’s relief fund being dishonoured.
