Hyderabad: Raids by the Anti-Corruption Bureau on a number of premises belonging to a senior Andhra Pradesh government official has yielded stunning results.

The ACB officials have found assets estimated to be worth more than Rs8 billion (Dh441.3 million) during the search operations on 13 premises in three states belonging to A. Mohan, the deputy transport commissioner, East Godavari district.

The searches were conducted at many places in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. Officials said the document value of various properties alone stood at Rs1 billion to Rs1.2 billion which could be far less than the market price.

“We are yet to open at least 12 bank lockers which could yield more assets and information,” a senior official of the ACB said.

Mohan was arrested in Vijayawada and produced before the ACB court which remanded him to judicial custody.

The raids were carried out after keeping a close watch on Mohan’s activities and his financial dealings. Sources said that he had transferred some of the assets to his name from the names of his in-laws in Bellary district of Karnataka.

The assets found included jewellery, diamonds, precious stones and also documents pertaining to 10 different companies floated by Mohan in the names of his daughters. The ACB found that he had financial dealings with a leading liquor trader, Mallikarjun, and was questioning the latter.

Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Rama Devi of the Central Investigation Unit of ACB, who led the operation, said the raids were conducted in Hyderabad, Nellore, Prakasham, Kakinada, Vijayawada, Bellary, Medak and Anantapur and some other places.

The search operation is still on and the final value of his assets is likely to be even bigger. This has already become the biggest catch among corrupt government officials in the history of the state.
