Patna: A teenaged schoolgirl who was allegedly raped by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) lawmaker Raj Ballabh Yadav has passed her Class 10 board examination in the first division.

The result was declared on Sunday evening.

Authorities said the abuse survivor secured 67 per cent marks in the matriculation examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board. She obtained 335 marks out of total 500 with mathematics being her scoring subject. She got 76 per cent marks in mathematics.

The examination took place in March this year when she was making the rounds at the police and court to record her statements against the accused.

Initially, she had decided to skip the examination, fearing threats to her life from the ruling party lawmaker, and amid mental trauma.

However, the state government came to her rescue. The administration not only arranged a tutor at her home to help her prepare for the examination but also arranged a safe examination centre for her without disclosing her identity. Police in plainclothes were deployed at the exam centre to provide security to the student as she finally appeared at the examination.

Her family was curious to know about the fate of the survivor who had dared to sit in the examination fighting against all odds. Much to their satisfaction, however, she passed the examination with first division.

“We are very much pleased after seeing the result of my daughter. We also thank the government for providing all the necessary helps, including arranging a tutor for her at home as well as a nearby exam centre, at the time of crisis,” victim’s father told the media today.

The alleged crime took place in February this year. According to the survivor, a middle-aged woman lured her on the pretext of attending a birthday party in the vicinity and handed her over to the lawmaker.

“He raped me the whole night [while] making me see [a] porn movie. He also made an MMS of the whole act and threatened to make it public if I dared to reveal it to anybody,” the victim told the police.

Soon after the incident, the victim registered a case against the lawmaker, who went into hiding fearing arrest. About a month later, he surrendered in the court after which he was sent to jail. The police have already filed charge-sheet in the case and have announced start speedy trial against the accused jailed lawmaker. The lawmaker has also been suspended by his party for misconduct.
