New Delhi: Delhi-based psychiatrist Dr Shekhar Saxena, 48, attributes such ghastly crimes as rape by father to the general moral degradation, influence of media, vast sexual content easily available in magazines, television and on the Internet.
“Sexual assault upon a girl child is the most barbaric and savage atrocity, and hence highly deplorable. There is no crime more heinous and ghastly than the father raping his own daughters. No other crime can be more humiliating and disgraceful for a man than act of seducing his own daughter. But what we have observed is that in all instances of rape and child sexual abuse, there is some kind of entrapment and forced secrecy. The victim is forced to keep everything a secret. It is one of the reasons for delayed disclosures in many child sex abuse cases. One absolutely fails to imagine how a person would think of ravishing a minor innocent girl and that too when the girl is his own daughter who, in fact, deserves to be worshipped as a form of Goddess Durga. It is general degradation of the moral fabric of the society,” Dr Saxena, a private practitioner, told Gulf News.
