Hyderabad: Noted Bollywood producer Karim Morani, facing the charges of rape and wrongful confinement and cheating a woman was back in Charalapally Central jail in Hyderabad on Friday after his five-day police custody ended Thursday evening.
Morani, who suffers from several ailments including high blood pressure, diabetes and heart problems, had shown symptoms of high stress during the police custody but the Hayathnagar police completed his questioning about the alleged incident of rape of a woman in a hotel in Hyderabad.
Morani was arrested on the complaint of a woman from Delhi, reported to be friend of his daughter Shaja Morani.
During the police custody the police also took him to Ramoji Film City where the incident had allegedly occurred in 2015. The police reconstructed the sequence of events leading to the alleged incident in the sprawling studio.
Hayathnagar police inspector J Narender Goud said that Morani’s mobile phone has also been seized for investigation as it was allegedly used to take the photos of the woman which was used to blackmail her.
The phone had been with Karim’s daughter and on requisition by the police she had brought it from Mumbai and handed it over to the police.
“We hope to find crucial evidence from the phone related to the case. Even if the data was deleted we will retrieve it,” the inspector said.
58-year-old Karim Morani, producer of many Bollywood blockbusters starring super star Shahrukh Khan, such as ‘Ra One’, ‘Chennai Express’, ‘Happy New Year’ and ‘Dilwale’ was earlier arrested by the CBI in 2011 in connection with the 2G scam.
An unidentified 25-year-old woman lodged a complaint with Hayathnagar police station that Morani had cheated and raped her in 2015 and 2016.
