Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samiti today bagged the coveted posts of mayor and deputy mayor of Hyderabad, as both its candidates, Bontu Rammohan and Baba Fasihuddin, were elected unanimously.

With 99 of the 150 seats of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation in its bag and the second largest party Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) extending support, the TRS had a cakewalk in the elections to the two posts held on Friday.

With only one nomination each being filed for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor, the presiding officer and Hyderabad district collector Rahul Bojja announced the election of both the nominees unanimously.

Deputy Chief Minister, Mahmoud Ali, and home minister, N Narasimha Reddy, were among the notables present in the Council Hall on the occasion of elections of mayor and deputy mayor.

The opposition parties TDP, Congress and BJP, reduced to the strength of 1, 2 and four they had no role in the election of the two key posts.

Earlier, the TRS finalised its candidates and chalked out its strategy at a meeting of the party corporators.

33 year Bonta Rammohan, elected from Charalapally division is known as a staunch loyalist of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. He was active in the TRS and Telangana movement from his student days.

Baba Fasihuddin is also a youth leader represents Borabanda division in the GHMC. Fasihuddin, a camp follower of KCR’s daughter K.Kavita had entered TRS as a student leader and always remained with the party.
