Hyderabad: The rescue operation launched by the local administration to save a little girl stuck in a bore well was obstructed by a dust storm and heavy rains since noon on Friday.

An 18-month-old girl Veena fell into a 60 feet deep well while playing in the fields in Chanvali village of Chevella Mandal near Hyderabad last evening. With her cries clearly audible till late into the night the police and civic officials along with the local people launched an operation to save her by digging a parallel well with heavy machines.

While oxygen was supplied through pipes to keep the girl alive remote cameras were also used to locate the exact position of the girl. Authorities estimate that the girl was stuck at the depth of 40 feet in the abandoned bore well.

An expert team from the National Disaster Relief Force tried to extract the girl using a robotic arm but the effort was not successful.

The parallel well was dug till the depth of 25 feet when the storm disrupted the operation.

With each passing second increasing the odds officials were trying to speed up the digging of the well.
