Hyderabad: For the people reeling from the scorching summer heat and dry weather in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, finally there is some news to cheer. Many parts of both states were likely to receive isolated rainfall and witness thunder storm activity.

Cyclone Warning Centre at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and the private weather forecaster Skymet have said that a trough has formed from Central Uttar Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Telangana to interior Karnataka.

The thunder storm and isolated rains over the next two to four days are likely to bring the temperatures down in both the Telugu states.

The CWC at Visakhapatnam said many parts of Andhra Pradesh were already receiving good rains over the last two days and the activity will continue for another 48 hours. The highest rainfall of 5cm was recorded at Nellimerla in Vizianagaram district in 24 hours till Sunday morning. Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram cities also recorded 3cm each. In Anantapur district, one of the worst hit by the dry spell, Penugonda recorded 3cm of rain while Lepakshi town recorded 2cm of rains.

Weather office said rains under the influence of the trough were likely to continue till May 10 and the temperatures could start rising again after that.

In Hyderabad, where mercury was 4 to 5 degrees above normal for most part of April, the temperature has dipped slightly to 38 degrees Celsius, slightly below the normal.

According to Skymet, Hyderabad and its surroundings are likely to experience thunder storm and thunder shower over the next 48 hours bringing relief from the heat.
