Hyderabad: The trouble continues for Majlis-e-ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi over his alleged hate speech in a public meeting last month.
On a day, when two police teams from Adilabad and Nizamabad districts pasted notices at his residence in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad as he was out of country, many more cases were slapped on him for hurting the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.
While four cases were booked against him on Thursday, two more cases were booked on Friday at L.B. Nagar police station and Osmania University Police stations in Hyderabad. The notices pasted on his residence asked Owaisi to be present at the respective police stations on January 7 and 8.
However Owaisi, who was is a visit to London, is unlikely to return to the city soon. Cases have been booked against Owaisi under IPC section 121 (waging war against nation), and 153 A (promoting enmity between religious groups).
The state director general of police V. Dinesh Reddy said that if there was any doubt that Owaisi was deliberately trying to avoid police investigation, the state police will seek the help of Interpol to bring him back.
Meanwhile, the BJP was trying to keep the issue of hate speech on the boil. On Friday, a delegation of party leaders led by the state president G. Kishan Reddy met the governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and sought action against the MIM leader. They also submitted the video copies of the speech along with memorandum. Giving details of the speech at two public meetings in Nizamabad and Nirmal towns, the BJP leaders said that the speeches was part of communal politics of MIM.
“They want to polarize the people, induce the mind of Muslims with insecurity by spreading lies”, the memorandum said.
Meanwhile, Chaitanyapuri police station under the Cyberabad commissionerate has booked a case against the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Pravin Togadia for his alleged hate speech on December 12. Shiva Naidu, inspector of police, said that the case was booked on the basis of the clippings of his remarks in the media.
On the other hand, the additional metropolitan magistrate has adjourned the hearing of a petition to January 8 in which action was sought against Togadia for his threats to turn Hyderabad in to another Ayodhya. He had alleged that Muslims were trying to obstruct Hindus from worshipping at a disputed temple in Charminar.
The petitioner has sought direction to the Sayeedabad police station to register a FIR against Togadia under section 295 (A).
