New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reminisced about former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and his contribution to the nation on his 73rd birth anniversary.

Rajiv Gandhi was in 1944 and was assassinated on May 21, 1991.

“On his birth anniversary, we remember former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi & recall his contribution to the nation,” Modi tweeted.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday paid homage to Gandhi as well. “Sincere tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary,” she tweeted.

Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944, and was Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989. He was assassinated by a LTTE suicide bomber in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, on May 21, 1991, while campaigning for general election.
