New Delhi: Reports of senior journalist and popular prime-time news debate host Arnab Goswami resigning as editor-in-chief of Times Now news channel after a ten-year stint has invoked mixed reactions from audiences.

Goswami is likely to start a news channel with politician Rajeev Chandrasekhar and American media baron Rupert Murdoch. According to some, he might join UK’s Fox News.

“Times Now without Arnab Goswami will be like a body without a head. I can’t believe he has quit. Hope he continues with journalism and his programmes, maybe with some other channel,” Neha Raina told Gulf News.

“Irrespective of whether you appreciate his style, Arnab Goswami quitting Times Now is the biggest media story. That you have to hand to him. Since he left, Times Now should be renamed Times Then,” tweeted Munish Goyal.

Goswami’s talk show The Newshour on Times Now has enjoyed over 70 per cent share of the prime-time audience for the past eight years.

“Arnab Goswami has led Times Now to leadership in less than a year of the launch of the channel in 2006. Since 2007, he has maintained and increased the dominance of Times Now. There is no one who can really take his place,” Mushahid Malik told Gulf News.

But some feel Goswami was high on jingoism and low on substance.

“No doubt Arnab Goswami’s interview-based show, Frankly Speaking with Arnab, is one of the most followed interview on television. But he has popularised a new brand of news coverage where no one is allowed to air views except him. He would openly humiliate and abuse his guests. His shows were mostly high-decibel arguments, which made little sense to the saner audiences,” Rajesh Mohita told Gulf News.
