New Delhi: Pamphlets by local units of banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) threatening Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and badminton ace Saina Nehwal were recovered on Monday from Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

“We condemn the financial assistance given to the families of Central Reserve Police Force jawans killed in People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) attacks,” a pamphlet, issued by CPI (Maoist) Bastar south sub-zonal bureau, read.

Nehwal had donated Rs50,000 each to the families of the 25 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans who were martyred in a Maoist ambush in Sukma district of Chhatisgarh on April 24.

“My heart goes out to our soldiers who put their lives at risk to keep us safe. I can’t bring those soldiers back who lost their lives in Chhattisgarh but in my small way I want to donate for those families,” Nehwal had told media earlier.

After seeking a nod from Ministry of Home Affairs, Kumar had transferred Rs900,000 each to the accounts of the dependents of the 12 jawans killed in Sukma ambush in March. Subsequently, he also launched the Indian government portal ‘Bharatkeveer.com’, where citizens can directly donate to the families of martyr, army or paramilitary personnel.

Maoists claimed that the jawans were punished in Sukma for their exploitation of the local population.

The pamphlets appealed to celebrities to speak for the oppressed tribals. The Maoists said the celebrities should refrain from supporting security personnel and said they did not die for the country.

“We appeal to famous figures, film actors, sportspersons and celebrities to stand with the revolution and poor people. Stand against police atrocities and human rights violations,” the pamphlet further read.

It also criticised the role of gau rakshaks (cow vigilantes), alleging that they had been killing the poor Dalits (people belonging to lower castes) and Muslims under the pretext of protecting cows.

The Maoist cadre that killed 25 CRPF personnel at Burkapal in Sukma district on April 24 in an ambush, has earlier this month justified its action by releasing a purported audio, mentioning the reasons for the gruesome killing of security force personnel.

The audio clip claimed that they unleashed attacks on CRPF personnel on March 11 and April 24 in order to give a befitting reply to the government, its ‘fascist forces’ and Operation Green Hunt.
