Hyderabad: West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, police have launched a massive manhunt for a psychopath who triggered panic by targeting women and young girls with an injection.

In view of complaints of such attacks from many places the district, superintendent of police (DSP) Bhaskar Bhushan formed 40 special teams to hunt the elusive assailant down. He announced a reward of Rs50,000 (Dh2,775) to anybody who helps nab the criminal.

“Fourteen such attacks were reported under different police stations including [in] Palacole, Undi and Ananthapalli”, he said.

In the latest such incident, today, a fourth-standard student suffered an attack at Narsapuram. The girl was taken to the hospital for medical examination. The mysterious person, believed to be in his thirties, escaped.

As part of the manhunt, the police have set up 15 check posts to catch the motorcycle-riding culprit.

So far, the police have seized two syringes used in attacks and sent them for forensic examination. However, so far there has been no reports of any major harm to the victims on account of the jab caused by the “injection psycho”.

However, the incidents have created a terror in the rural areas.

Narsapuram DSP Soumya Lata today released the sketch of the assailant prepared on the basis witness statements. “He could be in areas of Tadepalligudem, Bhimavaram or Narsapuram”, the DSP said.
