Thiruvananthapuram: A man in Kerala was saved after he jumped into the enclosure of lions at the zoo in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.

The man was identified as Murugan, 35, a native of Ottapalam near Palakkad. It is believed that he did the act in an inebriated condition.

The incident happened around noon on Wednesday, and alert zoo staff were able to rescue him. The man had scaled a wall around the lions’ area and jumped into the trench inside the enclosure.

According to reports, when one of the lions walked towards him, the onlookers raised an alarm. Zoo staffers who were at hand managed to divert the attention of the lions and got them into a cage before dragging Murugan to safety.

Murugan had suffered minor injuries while jumping into the enclosure and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Murugan had gone missing from home three days ago, and his family had given a complaint to the local police and also released a newspaper advertisement to locate him.
