Patna: Police in Bihar, in a major breakthrough, on Monday arrested a man who has confessed to killing more than 20 persons.

The killer, Avinash Srivastava, son of a former lawmaker, was arrested while trying to rob a government bank in Vaishali district on Monday afternoon.

Police said Srivastava — who led a gang of criminals — had entered a Central Bank of India branch and was trying to rob cash from the locker when someone informed the police about the incident.

The police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the areas, leading to his arrest. However, his accomplices managed to escape.

“All the criminals had come dressed as kanwarias (Hindu pilgrims) to rob the bank but were caught midway,” said local district superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar.

Srivastava told the police he entered the world of crime to avenge the murder of his father Lalan Srivastava, a former lawmaker who was killed in 2002.

In 2013, he finally killed his father’s alleged killer Pappu Khan by pumping as many as 32 bullets into his body.

The gangster who did his post graduation from Jamia Millia Islamia, a Central university in Delhi, and has also worked for a leading company like Infosys, always remains dressed in blue coloured clothes which he says, are “lucky”. However, his luck ran short on Monday when he was caught by the police.
