Mamata describes Modi as ‘brainless’

Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banarjee has described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as brainless.

Speaking at a rally, Banerjee blamed the central government for instigating communal riots said, “He has been giving false speeches, but what ‘mann ki baat’ [matters of the heart] when he has no brains,”

Referring to the monthly radio broadcast by Modi, Banerjee said, “he is saying ‘mann ki baat’, but actually in his mind, he wants communal discord. They are destroying the churches ... instigating communal violence,” Banerjee said.

This is not the first time that Banerjee has made an unsavory remark against the prime minister.

During last year’s election campaign she called Modi a “donkey” over his alleged speech of providing residency status to a community in Bengal.

The chief minister should remember and respect the office of the prime minister and should refrain from making statements that are undignified of her stature, the prime minster’s office in a statement.

However, the state BJP unit has launched an offensive seeking her apology.

“How can an elected chief minister make such a statement against a sitting prime minister. She should apologise,” BJP state leaders said.
