Patna: A woman constable in Bihar has been dismissed from her job after she fell in love with a dreaded gangster, and subsequently married him, police said on Wednesday.

The woman officer, identified as Priti Kumari, was posted in Bhagalpur, some 230km east of Patna.

Kumari reportedly fell in love with the gangster, Mithu Sah, while she was posted with the women’s police station in Sitamarhi district last year.

Subsequently, she tied the know with the gangster in flagrant disregard of the police department’s policy.

Once the matter reached the police, she was shifted to Bhagalpur with immediate effect while an investigation was also opened against her.

During the course of inquiry, it was found that she supplied confidential information related to the department to her gangster husband.

The inquiry report further accused the woman constable of tarnishing the image of the police department, and sought clarification from her, but she failed to provide a convincing reply, prompting the police department to fire her from service.

“The woman cop has been dismissed from serve for her relations with the gangster and working against the police department,” a senior police official said on Wednesday.

In another related development, three more police officials were dismissed for allegedly helping the illegal liquor traders in Bihar which was declared a “dry” state in April last yar.

All the officials, who were posted with the Beur police station in Patna, were fired from service on Wednesday by the local deputy superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar after the charges against them were proved true during the course of investigation, reports said.

The dismissed officers are Vishwambhar Prasad, Sunil Kumar, both sub-inspector of police and Shrawan Kumar, assistant sub-inspector of police.

The action comes some five months after the police administration had shunted the entire cops posted with the police station on the charge of being hand in glove with the liquor mafias.

This is the first major and severe action against the erring cops after Bihar imposed a total ban on sale and consumption of alcohol in April last year.
