Patna: A village council official in Bihar has forced a villager to lick his spit over a petty issue, prompting the police to register a case against him.

A case was registered with the Dalsingh Sarai police station, in Samastipur district on Tuesday, after a video of the incident, which was allegedly also shot by the accused council official, went viral.

The police are now conducting a manhunt for the absconding accused.

Reports said the accused council official, Murai Jha, called villager Bhairav Lal Sah at his home last week and asked him to pay a fine of Rs25,000 (Dh1,361) or be ready to face the stick. He accused him of breaking up a marriage in the family.

The council official represents Bambaiya-Harlal panchayat in the district.

As the victim begged for mercy, the official forced him to lick his spit to escape punishment, which he did.

In the meantime, the accused also shot a video of the entire incident on his cell phone.

The matter took a serious turn when the council official uploaded that video on the social media which soon went viral, turning victim’s life into a veritable hell with the local villagers calling up and asking about the incident.

Subsequently, the alleged victim reported the matter to a local police official, who ordered the arrest of the council official after watching the video.

“We have registered the case and are conducting raids to nab the accused,” the local subdivisional police officer Anwar Jawaid Ansari told the media today.
