Hyderabad: Lok Sabha member Asaduddin Owaisi has said the warrant issued against his younger brother by police in Bihar is aimed at preventing his party from contesting elections in the Seemanchal region.

The president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen was speaking to reporters after Bihar police issued a warrant for Akbaruddin Owaisi, his brother and the party’s floor leader in the Telangana assembly, following a First Information Report (FIR) over alleged provocative speech.

“We have not received the official copy of the FIR. Only after that we will proceed further. Our legal team will deal with the issue”, he said.

Refusing to comment on the contents of Akbar’s alleged speech in the Kocha Dhaman assembly constituency of Bihar, where MIM state unit president Akhtarul Iman is in the fray, Asaduddin Owaisi said it was a fact that 3,000 people were killed in Gujarat and the then chief minister failed to stop it.

He also wanted to know why such warrants were not issued for other leaders against whom FIRs have registered for objectionable speeches.

Meanwhile Asaduddin Owaisi has sanctioned Rs1.9 million (Dh107,218) from his MP Local Area Development fund for the installation of CCTV cameras in parts of Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency. He handed over a cheque to the Assistant Commissioner of Police Rambhopal Reddy.

The money would be utilised for the installation of cameras in the Mangalhat division, known to be communally sensitive.

Speaking on the occasion Asaduddin said he hoped that the cameras will help in monitoring anti-social elements who create trouble from time to time and also ensure in maintaining peace.
