Hyderabad: Senior Telugu Desam leader of Telangana A. Revanth Reddy, who was arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) two days ago, was moved from Chanchalguda jail to Charalapally prison in Hyderabad on the orders of a local court.

Chanchalguda jail authorities had expressed their inability to keep Reddy on the grounds of security as sufficient space was not available for prisoners of this nature.

Pointing out that Revanth Reddy’s case comes under the jurisdiction of Charalapally jail, the jail authorities had requested for his removal.

Accepting their plea, the court on Tuesday issued the orders.

As Revanth Reddy was being taken to the other jail, TDP supporters tried to block the path of the police van. However police used mild force to disperse them.

Revanth Reddy was nabbed along with his two aides by ACB investigators on Sunday when he allegedly tried to bribe a nominated MLA by paying Rs5 million (Dh288,005) to seek his vote for the TDP candidate in Legislative Council elections.

ACB Director General AK Khan said that it was not yet clear whether the deal was to pay Rs20 million or Rs50 million.

“We are investigating the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile a hearing of the bail petition by Revanth Reddy was postponed until Friday as the counsel for ACB sought more time to file the counter. He was remanded to 14 days judicial custody yesterday.

Even as the Telugu Desam Party countered the allegations against Revanth Reddy by saying the chief minister was responsible for the conspiracy to defame the opposition, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti was planning to take full mileage of the episode.

Sources said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was mulling the idea of getting Revanth Reddy disqualified from the House.

The sources said he discussed the issue with two senior ministers E. Rajinder and T. Harish Rao.

The party was willing to go to the extent of convening a special session to discuss the issue. It was of the view that the attempt by one MLA to bribe another member of the same House was a serious matter and it deserves a stringent action.

“Such an action can be taken by the assembly under Article 191”, sources said.
