Hyderabad: Kapu community leader Mudragada Padmanabham and his wife, who are on indefinite fast at their home in Kirlampudi in East Godavari for the last two days refused to undergo medical examination by doctors.

Twice a team of government doctors approached them inside their house to examine their sugar and blood pressure levels and other parameters but they refused. “I am OK. There is no need for any medical tests”, he told the doctors.

Mudragada was on fast demanding inclusion of his Kapu community in the list of backward classes and release of 20 billion rupees (Dh1.08 billion) to the Kapu welfare corporation.

The home of Mudragada family was under police cordon and entire village was under a siege as no outsider was being allowed to come there as part of the elaborate security arrangements.

The revival of the old demand and an agitation by the Kapus had turned violent on Sunday when a mob set Ratnachal Express and several vehicles on fire.
