Her half-naked body covered by a torn shirt was found near a canal about 100 kilometres away in Jind on Saturday.

There were injuries to her face, neck, lips and chest.

Doctors said her private parts were mutilated. She had been sexually assaulted, objects had been inserted and there were signs of drowning.

The girl had tried to flee, but she was gagged.

The brutality to which this girl was subjected to brought back horrific memories of the Delhi gangrape in which a 23-year-old medical student — who came to be known as Nirbhaya – was tortured, raped and killed on a moving bus in December 2012.

Two more rapes have shocked Haryana.

An 11-year-old girl was raped and strangled after she was kidnapped on Saturday when had left her house in Panipat to dump garbage.

A 22-year-old woman was kidnapped and gang-raped for two hours in an SUV in Faridabad.

Last month, a six-year-old girl was raped and killed in the state's Hisar district. She had also been tortured.
