Thiruvananthapuram: Five lives were lost in Kerala, four of them in the northern district of Wayanad, in multiple accidents over the weekend.

In Wayanad, four lives were lost in three different road accidents.

In one of those incidents at Lakidi, a bike collided with a lorry, killing the two bike riders, who were students. The deceased were identified as Safwan, a native of Kanhangad, and his college mate A. Nooruddin, 21. Safwan passed away on Friday, while Nooruddin succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning.

In an early morning bike accident on Saturday, a youth identified as Vighnesh, 20 lost his life. His co-rider, Yadu Krishna was admitted to a hospital in Bathery with injuries. The incident occurred near Erumad, with the bike hitting a wayside post.

In another road accident in Wayanad district on Saturday, Saji Abraham, 45 lost his life. Abraham, a native of Varadur, was rushed to a hospital in Kalpetta but his life could not be saved.

In another incident at Eraviperur in Pathanamthitta district, one person was killed when an unauthorised cracker-making unit caught fire, setting off a blast. Six others were injured in the blast. Four of the injured were reportedly in a serious condition, having suffered 70 per cent burns in the blast that occurred on Saturday morning.
