Hyderabad: The fate of the two associate professors from Hyderabad, abducted in Libya by Daesh on Wednesday was unknown even as the Indian government officials were in contact with officials in Tripoli to secure their safe release.

Back home in Hyderabad the families of the two hostages, Balram and Gopikrishna, were keeping their fingers crossed and desperately waiting for some good news.

Daesh had abducted four Indians at a checkpoint 50km away from Tripoli when they were on their way to the airport to return home. While two hostages, Lakshmipati and Vijay Kumar from Karnataka, were released on Friday, there was no news about the other two.

Balram’s family residing at Tirumalgiri in Secunderabad received a message from Lakshmipati last evening. “The SMS said that my husband was safe”, said Balram’s wife Sridevi.

However there was no news about Gopikrishna whose family lives in Nacharam area of Hyderabad.

Meanwhile Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao expressed hope that both the residents of Hyderabad will return home safely and will be reunited with their families.

Telangana state Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma wrote a letter to the Foreign Secretary requesting the help to get the hostages released and bring them back home.
