Patna: This family dreads February 2. That day one of them will die.

For the past four years, one person from the family has died on that day.

Pokhan Ram, a resident of Lakhanipur-Maheshpatti village in Samastipur district, some 90km east of Patna has been living in fear. Ram’s relative died in a road accident on February 2, 2015. The family grieved. But they accepted it as the will of the God and tried to move on.

A year later, on February 2, 2016, his brother Bechan Ram, 30, the second among three brothers, died. Tragedy struck again in 2017:  his elder brother Fekan Ram, 35, died.

On February 2 this year, his father Sakhindra Ram, 60, died. “We don’t know whose turn will come next year,” Pokhan says with panic in his voice.

Villagers are surprised at the peculiar happening. “It’s stunning but this is a fact,” said village council chief Benazir Bano.

But another village council representative Yogendra Singh described it as just coincidence.
